PA Top Election Officals Memo to PA Voters but also to still Uncommitted PA Supers asking for UNITY

Dear Fellow Democrat,

As we approach the final stretch of what has been the most exciting nomination process in recent history, one thing is for certain: Each of our stellar candidates will be ready to assume the presidency from the first day in office and promises to perform much better than what we've had in this country for the past eight years.

The failed policies of the Bush Administration will be behind us and either Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Barack Obama will be in the White House if we make sure everyone is on board this fall as we muster all of our support and enthusiasm behind the Democratic nominee.

While we worked diligently for our respective candidates this past spring in Pennsylvania, we strongly agree that each of us will support the Democratic nominee and will campaign tirelessly across the Commonwealth for him or her. Make no mistake about it, we care deeply about Pennsylvania and the nation. We are mired in an unpopular war that is costing us $12 billion a month and affecting us dramatically at the gas pumps as Pennsylvanians continue to pay astronomical amounts per gallon. We are also staunchly against further tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans while our working families continue to struggle with health care costs or continue to exist without it. And we are ready to begin a new period of economic prosperity in Pennsylvania as Bush and his tired leadership begins to fade.

Unfortunately, a clone of Bush is ready to take his place in Sen. John McCain. We simply cannot afford a third Bush term in McCain. He offers no solutions for Iraq, except to commit to another 100 years, and he flip-flopped on Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest. John McCain is not the straight talker that he projects himself to be. We won't be fooled by his Double Talk express that has rolled into many of our communities. Instead, we promise to work together to ensure that we don't elect "McSame" this fall.

In fact, we promise to work together to ensure we elect a Democrat.

Now, we need your help. As we move forward as a unified Democratic Party, let us agree that as Democrats we have a responsibility to our state and our nation to work tirelessly for our nominee. We have one million more Democrats than Republicans in Pennsylvania. Apparently, our friends and neighbors feel very strongly about the Democratic Party and have made their voices known by either switching from another party or registering for the first time. That alone should inspire us.

As the top elected officials in Pennsylvania, we promise to lead our troops this fall in a UNIFIED fashion that will bring home another resounding victory for the Keystone State, for our nominee and for our country.

Sincerely,
Governor Edward G. Rendell
Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr.

Obama definitely has the right to go to a church where they preach crazy stuff. I have the right not to vote for someone who chooses a crazy pastor.

Re: UNITY (2.00 / 1)

I don't dispute your right to do with your vote as you wish.

But I would argue the relevance of his church in the types of policies he'd pursue.  He'll certainly take up their social justice platform much more than BushCo., and that's admirable, in my opinion, but I don't see much of Wright in Obama.  Their styles are clearly very different, Obama hasn't said anything that would make me think he subscribes to some of the more paranoid ramblings from Wright, and I just don't see any tangible influence that Wright's negative aspects could have on Obama as President.

Re: UNITY (none / 0)

Oh and, so you know, I would vote for Hillary because I don't associate her values with her husband's values.  This guilt by association shtick doesn't work for me.  Honestly, I don't believe because Wright said some crazy stuff doesn't mean Obama can't take the church for what it is.  It's where he learned his faith in god and involved himself in the community, not where he learned his politics and viewpoints on society.  Same with Hillary.  Bill is her husband and she takes the good with the bad.

Ok, then I choose to not vote Hillary cause her husband cheated on her which proves she is not good at pleasing her husband so I cant trust her in the white house.

Re: UNITY (2.00 / 1)

How do you feel Obama's association with Wright is gonna affect Obama's presidency?

Right now the main issue that religion usually interjects itself into in politics is
a) reproductive rights (abortion, morning-after pill)
b) gay rights,
c) the teaching of evolution at schools.

None of which has ANYTHING to do with the objectionable material from Wright's sermons.

And if Obama's presidency has nothing to do with Wright's sermons, then you're not honoring your "values", you're merely showing your distaste.

Don't try to present your choice as something nobler than it actually is.

Re: PA Top Election Officals Memo to PA Voters but (2.00 / 5)

Anyone who sits out this election or votes for McCain because they are disgruntled Hillary supporters are not only spitting in her face, they are taking a dump on her life's work. She is begging her supporters to support the democratic nominee, and they are showing just how little they value her guidance, opinions and policies. It begs the question - why did they ever support her in the first place if they place so little value on her judgment?

Eddie...!!! (none / 0)

Good job Ed!

And just to put in two cents on the ol Rev since he seems to be a talking point...

If someone were to talk about slavery, the Japanese internment, using live humans to test the effects of nuclear radiation, manifest destiny and then in the next breath utter God BLESS America, I know I wouldn't thinking about how wonderfully patriotic they were.

Our country has done some awfully horrific things over time.  Flag wavers don't make change, only those who speak out in dissent change the world.

I certainly don't agree with a lot of what he may have said but my pastor has said some things that make me cringe as well.  He is white so most people would allow him some latitude.  People seem to be quicker to judge when there is a difference they can quickly identify (race, gender, religion, height, age, weight).
